Roll the Dice Again! Board Game Group is Back

Canine Walking Group – Calling all waggy tails!
Three adventurous dogs (and their well-trained owners!) have already been exploring the lovely trails around Pleasley Pit Nature Reserve and Vicar Water Country Park — but we’d love a few more paws on the path to make it a proper pack. Burns Night
Thursday evening, 26 members enjoyed an excellent meal at Refined Dining once again. The service and friendliness of the staff were very good, and it was lovely to have the chance to mingle with both new and familiar faces — people we often only see at our monthly meetings.

Mansfield & District u3a Christmas Fair
The 3rd Mansfield & District Christmas Fair on 18 November at the Civic Corner was a great success, with 146 members attending. Our u3a stallholders offered a lovely range of festive items, and their donations helped raise £107 from the raffle and £53 from the tombola. CitizenAID Workshop – Stop the Bleed
Mansfield & District u3a was delighted to be the first u3a in the country to host a CitizenAID Workshop as part of our Dip in & Discover programme. Held at the Quaker Meeting House, over 20 members took part in a friendly, hands-on session learning practical, life-saving skills, including how to control serious bleeding in the "Stop the Bleed" segment. Mansfield u3a Gardening Group
Tuesday 4 November was a pre-bonfire extravaganza with a riotous colourful display from the very rewarding talk by the excellent Andrew Ward, owner of Norwell Nurseries. His knowledge of all things plant based was outstanding and delivered with aplomb ( no crib sheets were used in this demonstration) a very captivated audience were left wanting more.

For the first time, we booked out the whole restaurant at Refined Dining in West Notts College so our latest u3a lunch. Thirty-one of our members enjoyed a delicious 3-course lunch.

Christmas Treats Course - Dip in and Discover
The first session of our six-week Christmas Treats course took place this afternoon at the home of Group Leader, Marilyn Jones. Members had great fun creating their own marzipan fruits and showing off some impressive creative flair. Over the coming weeks, the group will be making fudge, chocolate truffles, and other festive goodies — a lovely way to ease into the Christmas spirit.

No Coffee, No Problem – Pathfinders Find Ice Cream Instead!
Fifteen Pathfinders enjoyed a sunny five-mile October walk from South Forest Complex, Edwinstowe, following the old Thoresby Colliery railway line to Rufford Abbey before returning via the same route. Although long queues foiled plans for coffee at the Coach House Café, some members enjoyed flasks or ice cream instead.

Science and Technology Group
The group is back in action under David Drew’s leadership, with ten members meeting at the Bowling Club to plan future sessions. After refreshments from Sylvia Newlyn and Ian Lakin, David gave an engaging talk on the Spitfire and its designer R.J. Mitchell, exploring how Mitchell’s design and the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine combined to create a legendary aircraft.

At the October Meeting on Tuesday, we’ll still be taking bookings for the Games Night on Wednesday 12th November, 6.30pm–9.00pm at Mansfield Bowling Club. Tickets are £12, which includes a fish & chip supper. It was great fun last year, so we hope to see you all there!

October Stroll - Farnsfield
Our October stroll visited the Halifax Bomber Memorial in Farnsfield, honouring Pilot Officer Reginald Parfitt and his crew who died in 1944. The peaceful site, with native trees and Canadian Maples, made for a moving visit. We meet on the second Wednesday each month, walking 1.5–2.5 gentle miles with refreshments afterwards. Our final walk of the year is the Heritage Trail, 12th November, Sutton Reservoir (NG17 1JS) – small parking charge applies.
