Family History Group

Valerie Wood and Ken Gilbert are the group leaders for Mansfield u3a Family History. The group enjoys researching family histories and welcomes new members with similar interests.

Members share their family history research, photographs, maps & artefacts. The photo at the side is of Valerie Woods Family. We will also guide members to which websites to use for their research.

Our group's usual meetings are held at 10 am on the 4th Tuesday of the month.

In future our meetings will take place at a member's home and any member interested in joining us will need to email Ken or Valerie so they can pass on the address where we are meeting. If you do not have email addresses please use the Enquiry email to leave a message.

If you are interested in joining our group please contact Ken or Valerie by clicking on Family History Enquiry email at the top of the page.

Have you ever wondered who your Ancestors are?

Whether your ancestors lived in Nottinghamshire or lived further afield, the opportunities to find out more, via the library, the County Record Office or the internet are becoming easier every day.

The recently released 1939 Register that was compiled at the outbreak of W.W.11 on 29th September, 1939, is proving to be a very useful addition to the documents available for tracing our more recent ancestors. It records the actual date of birth and occupation of all adult members of the household, it was edited until fairly recently and shows the married name of ladies married after this date.

Our group has varied levels of experience so even if you are a complete beginner, we will be pleased to assist you to find your roots. Some of our members prefer to construct their family tree using pen and paper; others use a family history programme on the computer. Either way it can become very addictive.

Why not come and join us to find out more about your forebears.
